All of Kannik’s Korner patterns come with extensive documentation of the authenticity of the design and most importantly excellent directions.
These pants were worn primarily as fishing dress, but were used, however, also at times by farmers and field workers. They have slits in the sides but never pockets. Slits front and back,but never flap or fly, an old trait. A broad waistband buttoned with one or two large buttons. Length varies some. Cloth is normally of tight canvas or sailcloth. They can be oiled or varnished to make them waterproof. They were always worn on top of other pants.
They are also know as “stormbukser” (storm breeches), “sussebukser” (whistle breeches, as in eh soudn the wind makes), “sobukser” (sea breeches), ”Skortebuser” (skirt or petticoat breeches), “tuttebukser” ( protector breeches or “udebukser” (outer breeches).
They are mentioned in writings rather often from teh middle of the 1700’s, and can be followed in unbroken tradition from “oldetiden” (era before the Vikings) to the 1860-1870’s.
