Ladies’ 1890’s Sporting Costumes with Leggings- View A Bloomers
View A Ladies’ Bicycle Costume is a copy of a period 1890’s pattern. It includes a double breasted Basque with
collar and revers (lapels), Leg O’Mutton sleeves, pleated back, and belt. The skirt has double box pleats in front
and back, with roomy bloomers underneath. The bloomers blouse over the Ieggings and are made of same
or Similar fabnc as the Basque. A dickey with a high collar goes View B Basque
under the Basque. The Leggings are a copy of a vintage Fabric 45″ pair. View B Basque is a representation of a hunting
Basque depicted in Harper’s Bazar. The front is double breasted and has a wrap around high collar. The back,
sleeves and belt are the same as View A. View B bloomers are a copy of a vintage pair of Turkish bloomers.
Fabric: Wool- Cheviot, Herringbone, Gabardine, Worsteds,
Serge, Broadcloth, Twill, Flannel or Novelty Weaves-or
Linen, Duck, Cotton Twill, Pique. Most costumes would
be of dark colors to avoid showing dirt, such as gray, blue,
or brown.
Basque Lining: Polished Cotton or Sateen.
Skirt Lining: Any slick Silk, Poly, or Blend, no Acetate.
Leggings: Jersey, Wool Felt, Sweatshirt Knit. Leggings
Facings: Cotton Notions: Basque A: Size 2 Hooks and Eyes,
Four I” buttons, Buckle to fit a 2 1/2″ Belt.
Bloomers: Skirt Hook and Eye or 112″ button, 112 yd. Facings 1/4 1/4
3/4″ elastic. Skirt: Skirt Hook and Eye or 112″ button.
Basque B: Size 2 Hooks and Eyes, Six 3/4″ buttons,
Twelve 112″ buttons, Buckle to fit 2 112″ Belt.
Leggings: Twelve 3/8″ round top buttons, 1 pack single fold 112″
bias tape.
