This pattern makes a Lined Short Jacket

There are 3 sleeve styles included. It was worn by Farmers, Laborers, Apprentices, Seafarers, Sportsmen and Others.

This jacket is dated 1770-180, as an approximate era, since fashion makes some changes in jackets at the end of this era (particularly in collars and back widths) Earlier jackets are longer and cut differently, again affected by fashion.

The gneral purpose of this garments is a practical working man’s jacket, aside from teh gentleman sportsman, who would have also worn it for it’s practicality.  Since some of the most commendly depicted working class men are seamen (a lot of research has been done on them), there are more drawings of this group in short jackets than any oher working men.  Seamen were also the leaders in wearing “short clothes”.

View A Sleeve is a common open or slit sleeve with two buttons, it is the simplest to make.
iew B sleeve hasa scalloped flap with three buttons
